Celebrated author Francine Prose, president of PEN America, will read from and discuss her work at Southern New Hampshire University on July 27 at 7 p.m. in Robert Frost Hall's Walker Auditorium. The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing with refreshments available. The event is free and open to the public.

The bestselling novelist has authored 15 books, including “A Changed Man” and “Blue Angel,” a finalist for the 2000 National Book Award, and the nonfiction New York Times bestseller "Reading Like a Writer.” Her latest novel, “Touch,” was just released through HarperTeen.

Prose is the 2009 visiting faculty member for SNHU’s Master of Fine Arts in fiction and nonfiction program.

“We're honored once again this year to bring writers of national stature to the M.F.A. in Fiction and Nonfiction at Southern New Hampshire University,” says M.F.A. Director Robert Begiebing. “And I feel especially honored this year to have the president of PEN America work with our students and faculty over several days and to present an opportunity for the public to hear and engage with our visiting writer."
Other works by Prose include: “The Lives of the Muses: Nine Women & the Artists They Inspired,” a National Bestseller; “Caravaggio: Painter of Miracles and Household Saints,” released as a film in 1993; and “Goldengrove,” which received critical praise. She has contributed stories, articles, and reviews to almost every major American magazine and newspaper and is the winner of a Guggenheim fellowship, a Fullbright fellowship, two NEA grants, and a PEN translation prize. Prose has taught for more than twenty years at major universities throughout the country. The Atlantic Magazine calls Prose “A keen observer, and her fiction is full of wryly delivered truths and sardonic witticisms that come from paying close attention to the world.”
