Unsung Hero Award

The Unsung Hero Award is presented to an individual who in some unique and significant way contributed to his/her organization or the Southern New Hampshire University community as a whole. It is broad in its reach and by design meant to recognize those not usually recognized through traditional awards criteria. The nominee must have contributed behind the scenes with their skill, time, and effort towards furthering the vision, mission and strategy of the University or their chosen clubs and organizations.

Nominations must contain the following information:

  • Organization name
  • Nominator’s name
  • Nominee’s name
  • Class year

    Please provide a detailed description explaining the answers to the following questions:

  • What has the attendance and participation at set-up and break down of events, meetings and other activities of the organization been for this individual?
  • What has this person done/accomplished that has had an impact on the SNHU and/or local community?
  • Why do you feel this individual should be recognized as an Unsung Hero?

    Emerging Leadership Award

This award will be given to an individual in their first or second year in an organization. The person selected will best exemplify student leadership through the impact they have made in their organization and the SNHU community.  The individual who receives this award should clearly display that they are a great role model, they impact the lives of those they are in contact with, and demonstrate a great deal of leadership potential. 

Nominations must contain the following information:

  • Organization name
  • Nominator’s name
  • Nominee’s name
  • Class year
    • Please provide a detailed description explaining the answers to the following questions:

      • What has the attendance and participation at events and meetings been for this individual?
      • What has this person done/accomplished that has had an impact on your organization?
      • How would you describe the student's potential leadership contributions to the SNHU and/or local community?

      Campus Leadership Award

      The Campus Leadership Award is presented to a leader who has made a positive impact on the SNHU community and the organizations they have chosen to be active in.  The winner of this award should be involved in a variety of clubs and organizations on campus and has made a difference within all of them. 

      Nominations must contain the following information:

      • Organization name
      • Nominator’s name
      • Nominee’s name
      • Class year

      Please provide a detailed description explaining the answers to the following questions:

      • What is the level of involvement and how long has this person been involved in the organizations they are a part of?
      • What accomplishments has this individual achieved while attending SNHU?
      • What makes this candidate stand out from all other campus leaders?


      Advisor of the Year

      The Advisor of the Year Award is given to a faculty or staff member who has served the organization for the entire year in a supportive and positive manner.  The Office of Campus Programming & Leadership staff is not eligible to receive this award.

      Nominations must contain the following information:

      • Organization name
      • Nominator’s name

        Please provide a detailed description explaining the answers to the following questions:

      • How often did this person attend and participate in organization meetings and events? 
      • What involvement in the organization's leadership and training has this advisor taken?
      • In what other ways did this advisor support the organization throughout the year?


      Community Enrichment Award

      The Community Enrichment Award will be given to the organization that has completed a unique and educational project or series of projects during the academic year. 

      Nominations must contain the following information:

      • Organization name
      • Title of program
      • Attendance
      • Program description

        Please provide a detailed description explaining the answers to the following questions:

      • How did this program or programs support the mission of the organization?
      • How did the organization educate the campus community about the cause, not just the event that took place?
      • What type of impact did this program have on the SNHU community (if known)?

      Synergy Award

      This award will be given to the organization that demonstrates that co-sponsorship is a great way to build relationships within the SNHU community.  This organization must show that they collaboratively worked on multiple events throughout the year.  The collaboration could have occurred with other clubs/organizations or offices on campus. 

      Nominations must contain the following information:

      • Organization name
      • Nominator’s name

        Please provide a detailed description explaining the answers to the following questions:

      • What collaborative program(s) were offered and what was the purpose?
      • Which organizations/departments were chosen as co-sponsors?
      • What was the role of each co-sponsor involved in each program?

      Creative Marketing Award

      This award will be given to the organization that truly demonstrates success in creative advertising and marketing. The organization receiving this award will have clearly used creative marketing technique(s) in order to catch the students’ attention. Examples of nominations that will be considered include campaigns, themes, event advertisements or promotional items.

      Nominations must contain the following information:

      • Organization name
      • Nominator’s name
      • Title of event, campaign, theme, item
      • Date(s) utilized
      • Description

        Please provide a detailed description explaining the answers to the following questions:

      • Did the organization use a theme? If so, what was the theme?
      • How was the theme incorporated into the advertisements and programs?
      • What type of advertisements were used? Was it student-designed?
      • What was the creative process or plan?
      • Describe the promotional item that was used (if any).

      In order to be considered for this award, samples or photos of the creative advertisements and promotional gimmicks must be submitted to the Office of Campus Programming & Leadership.

      Excellence in Programming (two awards could be presented)

      This award is given to the organization that has developed and presented a unique program or activity for the SNHU community.  An award will be given out for a program that cost less than $500.00, and another one will be given out for a program that cost more than $500.00.

      Nominations must contain the following information:

      • Organization name
      • Nominator’s name
      • Title of program
      • Cost of program
      • Attendance

        Please provide a detailed description explaining the answers to the following questions:

      • What was the purpose of the program and how did the program support the mission of your organization?
      • What was the planning process that was involved in this particular event?
      • Who was involved in the creation, execution, and evaluation of the event?

      Most Improved Organization Award

      The Most Improved Organization Award is presented to an organization that has made a significant transformation from the previous year to the current. This may have been an organization that was previously unrecognized and is now active again, a club that was in jeopardy of losing recognition or an organization that struggled to rise each year to a higher standard.

      Nominations must contain the following information:

      • Organization name
      • Nominator’s name

        Please provide a detailed description explaining the answers to the following questions:

      • What efforts were made in recruitment, membership and leadership development?
      • What events or programs has the organization planned that has improved their image, membership retention, recruitment and worked toward the group’s goals?
      • What are the major accomplishments or improvements of the organization and how did they contribute to positive change?

      Scott W. Caswell Outstanding Student Organization Award

      The Scott W. Caswell Award is given out each year to an Organization that has exceeded the expectations inherent in their stated purpose and function.  This award is the highest honor given out by the Office of Campus Programming and Leadership. 

      Nominations must contain the following information:

      • Organization name
      • Nominator’s name

        Please provide a detailed description explaining the answers to the following questions:

      • How has the organization remained consistent with its stated purpose throughout the year?
      • What efforts were made in recruitment, membership and leadership development?
      • What are the major accomplishments of the organization?
      • How were the programs publicized and evaluated?
