- Student; On Campus

Sophanith (pronounced soap –an-it) Pou arrived in the U.S. from Cambodia in 2001 to pursue his college education. He confronted numerous obstacles, including learning to speak English. Eventually he became bookstore manager and president of the International Student Association at his Salem, Mass., college, and graduated with numerous honors, including the Silver Key Award, with a B.S. in business administration in 2006.
In 2008 Sophanith received a scholarship from SNHU to pursue a Global M.B.A. and a certificate in international business; he studies and works as textbook coordinator for SNHU Online. He recently received a Delta Mu Delta scholarship, which generated a lot of attention in the Cambodian media; his proud parents traveled to the U.S. to participate in the awards ceremony.
“The people I have met and the experiences I have gained at SNHU have helped me grow from a young student who studied by candlelight in Cambodia to an educated, confident adult,” Sophanith says. “The SNHU program has pushed me to strive for excellence and prepared me to aim high in my future life.”
After graduating, Sophanith plans to pursue a doctorate in international business at SNHU. His incentive to finish: He will not return to Cambodia until he earns his D.B.A. When he returns, he plans start his own venture – he is considering possibilities in higher education and importing/exporting.
“If you have goals and are willing to work hard, you can achieve anything,” he says.
