‘New Impressions’ at SNHU’s Pantano Gallery

Manchester, N.H. (Nov. 3, 2009) -- New Boston artist Hannah Phelps will display “New Impressions,” a collection of white-line woodcut prints, in Southern New Hampshire University’s Pantano Gallery from Nov. 1 through Dec. 30.

Phelps’ prints represent the variety and splendor of New Hampshire’s landscapes. She has captured the beauty of her home state in white-line woodcut relief prints, depicting scenes from the rocky coast to Mount Monadnock and even a view of South Uncanoonuc Mountain from downtown Manchester.

Phelps uses a meditative process of first carving an outline of the image in wood, then transferring the whole image by applying watercolor and pressing to paper each shape. This marries perfectly with the experience of observing and enjoying New Hampshire’s natural wonders, she says.

The Pantano Gallery is located in Southern New Hampshire University's Shapiro Library and is open Mondays through Thursday from 8 a.m. to midnight, Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to midnight. Please call the university's Shapiro Library at 603.645.9605 for gallery information.
