- Student, On Campus

After her first year in SNHU’s baking and pastry arts program, senior Liz White found a summer internship at Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop, a purveyor of specialty cakes in Hoboken, N.J.
Two summers later, White was on reality TV, part of the background ensemble on “Cake Boss,” a series that premiered last spring on cable channel TLC. The show chronicles master baker Bartolo “Buddy” Valastro and the daily drama at Carlo’s, the family business he runs.
White has appeared in multiple episodes, working on some of Valastro’s divine creations. At SNHU, she developed the skills to help her shine in the spotlight.
“I was able to come into it with some baking knowledge, so I didn’t just have to listen to people tell me what to do,” she said.
A Bayonne, N.J., resident, White earned an associate degree in baking and pastry arts at SNHU and will graduate in May 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in hospitality administration. She plans to work full-time at Carlo’s after she graduates and aspires to open her own specialty-baking business.
White credits SNHU’s devoted culinary faculty and intimate classes for fostering her development. And for her, SNHU’s campus is a home away from home.
“I’ve loved my experience here so much because I’ve been able to really connect with a lot of the people that I’ve met, students and faculty alike,” she said. “And I’ve been able to establish relationships and know that there are people looking out for my best interests.”
