SNHU to Host 2010 National Economics Challenge

Manchester, N.H. (March 2, 2010) – Join us at Southern New Hampshire University for the state-level segment of the 2010 National Economics Challenge on March 15. Competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Walker Auditorium in Robert Frost Hall and will conclude at 1:30 p.m.

9 a.m. -- Registration and Coffee  (arrivals any time after 8:00 AM)                               
9:30 a.m. -- Welcome and Introduction                      
9:45 a.m. -- Competition Rules and Format                                 
10 a.m. -- Test 1: Microeconomics (Written Multiple Choice Exam)                      
10:35 a.m. -- Test 2: Macroeconomics (Written Multiple Choice Exam)
11:25 a.m. -- Test 3: International/Current Events  (Written Multiple Choice Exam)
11:50 a.m. -- Lunch                                                         
12:30 p.m. -- Quiz Bowl – Top 2 scoring teams in morning competition compete in on-stage buzzer round for state championship title
1 p.m. -- Awards Ceremony — Awarding of trophies
1:30 p.m. -- Program Concludes

This academic assembly will feature high school students from across New Hampshire as they compete to prove their skill in the area of economics.

High school students will compete in teams to demonstrate their knowledge of economics by answering questions about microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics and current events. A winner will be announced at the state level and this team will continue on to the National Semifinals, from which the top six winning teams will advance to the National Finals. Winners at the National level receive cash prizes to accompany their medals and championship trophy.

The Federal Reserve Bank is collaborating with the Massachusetts Council on Economic Education to provide the 2010 Economics Challenge in Massachusetts and in New Hampshire.
