Customize the Master of Arts in Teaching English Program to Fit Your Goals

Pursue your passion for teaching, literature, and the written language as you earn your Master of Arts in Teaching English from Southern New Hampshire University. Whether you are a certified middle or high school English teacher who would like to deepen your knowledge of a subject area and sharpen your teaching skills, or you have a bachelor's in English or a related field and would like to become certified to teach in English in grades 5-12, this program is an ideal choice.

SNHU's Master of Arts in Teaching degree (MAT) is a joint program of the School of Education and School of Arts and Science that can be customized to fit your individual goals, experience and educational background. An advisor will work with you to build a program based on the subject matter in which you would like to become proficient, such as British or American literature, while also helping you choose between a variety of graduate-level electives in education, literature, reading, or English as a foreign language. If you are not a certified teacher, you will also work with your advisor to set up a required 16-week student teaching experience.

Courses for the Master of Arts in Teaching English program are taught on our main campus in Manchester by faculty members who are either current or former secondary school teachers who understand the challenges teachers face in classrooms today.
