Career Services for Students

Career Planning and Job Search

Career planning, which can be done in coordination with a student’s academic pursuits, is a systematic process requiring self-exploration of values, interests, skills and lifestyle preferences as well as exploration of the world of work.  Individual career counseling appointments help students identify their individual career development needs in the areas of career planning and pursuit of job opportunities.  Appointments can be made by contacting the office.

NHCUC Job Fair

The New Hampshire College and University Council sponsors a large business and industry job fair annually.

CDC Sponsored Career/Internship Fairs

Beginning fall 2007, we will be sponsoring an Internship Fair on November 6, 2007, and a Career/Internship Fair on March 11, 2008.   A variety of employers are expected to participate.  More information can be found on our Internship Information page.

Career Events

Discipline-specific and general career events are scheduled at various times throughout the academic year.  Networking events provide an opportunity to make contact with potential employers.

Self-Assessment

Self-assessment aids are available to all members of the SNHU community. The CDC offers the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®) and SkillScan assessment instruments by appointment, as well as online assessment exercises.

Resume/Cover Letter/Portfiolio

Resume critiques, cover letter writing assistance and portfolio development is offered to students as they develop personal marketing strategies for employment, internship and graduate school candidacy.

Mock Interviewing

Students may have a practice interview videotaped and reviewed in partnership with a CDC counselor who provides assistance in critiquing a student’s ability to effectively market their skills to potential employers.  Specific 'Mock Interview Days' are held each semester and students may register for a specific interview time through SNHU Recruit under Calendar.

Internship - For Undergraduate & Graduate students

Internships for undergraduates and graduate students provide firsthand knowledge about one's field of interest and the opportunities within that field. An internship experience allows students to apply classroom theory to a real-world learning environment and evaluate career choices. An undergraduate internship can be arranged for up to 12 academic credits, depending upon a student's program or major. Workshops are also offered to provide students with complete information.  Current internship possibilities are posted in SNHU Recruit.  Students may make an appointment to discuss eligibility.  Graduate students need to begin their application process through Graduate Enrollment Services located in Webster 118.  Mandatory workshops through our office are offered to help with the placement process.  All workshop schedules can be found in SNHU Recruit under Calendar.

On-Campus Recruiting

Throughout the academic year, company representatives conduct interviews in conjunction with the CDC.  The recruiting season typically runs from from October through April -- resulting in fall and spring semester schedules. A student must activate their account in SNHU Recruit before submitting their resume to participating employers.

Career Resources

The office maintains a resource library with publications on career planning, interviewing, resume/cover letter writing, and job search techniques, as well as directories identifying companies that recruit college students.  The library also contains texts and periodicals dealing with specific career opportunities within a given field.   You will also find sections of our Job Search Manual (also in hardcopy)online under Job Search Resources.
