This course builds on the previous theory courses.ýParticipants will begin to formulate a basicýtheory of community economic development (CED). Asýpart of developing a theory we will define aýseries of questions that must be addressed in theýtheory. We will also examine those theories thatýmost closely relate to issues raised in communityýeconomic development, including: market theory,ýtheories of poverty, location and space theories,ýpolitical theories and 147organic148 theoriesýbased on the observation of practice. Given thatýCED draws on a wide variety of disciplines, theýfield is not suffering from a lack of theory. Manyýtheories may apply to the field of CommunityýEconomic Development. The goal of this course isýexamine a variety of theories related to CED andýbetter understand their relationship to theýpractice of CED. Prerequisite: CED812.
