Library Services
Any member of the SNHU community - faculty, staff or current student – may register at the library circulation desk with their valid SNHU ID to borrow materials. In addition, patrons from NHCUC and GMILCS participating libraries may borrow material subject to some restrictions (PDF 29 kb). For more information, contact the circulation desk staff at 603.645.9605 or circulation@snhu.edu.
Upon receiving a degree from Southern New Hampshire University, alumni retain borrowing privileges of books and audio books at Shapiro Library using their SNHU Alumni Association ID card. Just bring your Alumni card with you to the Library for activation and a barcode number. Alumni cards can be obtained from the Alumni Office. SNHU Alumni are welcome to come to Shapiro Library in person to use the Library's electronic resources (with minor exceptions). Regretfully, due to licensing restrictions imposed by publishers, alumni privileges cannot be extended to remote access to the electronic resources.
Laptops
Shapiro Library has Dell laptops available for loan within Shapiro Library to current Southern New Hampshire University students, faculty and staff. These laptops connect to the SNHU network/internet using wireless technology. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Front Page software has been installed on each. The laptops can be checked out for up to four hours at a time following completion of a Borrower Responsibility Form. Laptop policies [30.5 kb] are available online or at the Circulation desk. For more information, please e-mail Chris Cooper or call 603.668.2211, ext. 2166.
Reserve Readings
Reserve materials (some textbooks, current newspapers, and faculty assigned readings) are kept at the Circulation Desk and may be used in the library upon presentation of a valid SNHU ID. Faculty members wanting to place course material on reserve for a term or semester should review the Shapiro Library Course Reserve Policy and complete a Reserves Request form. Reserve questions should be directed to Barbara Widger or call 603.668.2211, ext. 2157. Shapiro Library's Course Reserve Policy (PDF 37.5kb) and Reserve Request (PDF 46 kb) forms are available online or may be picked up at the Circulation Desk.
Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary loan allows current SNHU students, faculty and staff to access material not held at Shapiro Library. Before placing a request for materials from another library, please check the Shapiro Library Catalog or Electronic Print Journals by Title to be sure that the Shapiro Library does not own the material that you are requesting.
If you are requesting a thesis or dissertation, please check Dissertations & Theses: Full Text before placing your request.
Not all dissertations are available through Interlibrary Loan. Students and faculty may purchase dissertations easily online through UMI's Dissertation Express Web site. This Web site is for purchasing dissertations only. To find citations for dissertations on your topic use First Search’s Dissertation Abstracts available from the Shapiro Library’s Electronic Resources page.
Bibliographic Instruction
Library faculty are available for class presentations on research methods, the use of the library catalog, searching licensed databases and the World Wide Web. Classes may be introductory or tailored to specific subjects and disciplines. Faculty should contact Kathrine Aydelott or call 603.668.2211, ext. 2225 to arrange for a class presentation at least a week prior.

Documents are chosen to support the curriculum and are indexed in our Online Catalog. Links to electronic documents will be found in the catalog as well. You may also search for government information on FirstGov.gov, the U.S. Government’s official web portal and on GPO Access, the U.S. Government Printing Office’s “free electronic access to a wealth of important information products produced by the Federal Government.” All area residents are welcome to use government publications within Shapiro Library. For assistance with Government Documents e-mail the Government Documents Assistant, or call 603.668.2211, ext. 2193.
