“I support students while learning and also challenge them to learn.”
Dr. Charles Outcalt believes that online classes give students the opportunity to learn from a variety of sources. The SNHU Online instructor encourages and challenges them to think about issues more deeply. By shaking things up, students can learn from each other and understand, appreciate and respect other’s opinions, he says.

“I support students while learning and also challenge them to learn,” he says.

Outcalt, who teaches anthropology, philosophy and graduate education courses, incorporates current events into his online classroom. In doing so, he relates the course material to the real world. Students demonstrate their knowledge and learn from each other by participating in active discussion boards.

“I love to see what students have to say,” he says. “I enjoy seeing that in the course of one evening there are 61 new posts. That inspires me. I feel like I have done my job if I have provided students with the tools to enlarge their world views and put their own opinions and convictions into perspective.”
