Political Science Minor

The Political Science Minor at Southern New Hampshire University provides students with a theoretical and practical foundation in the art and science of politics.  It emphasizes the development of critical-thinking and analytical skills in political contexts, as well as the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing on topics of political concern. 

Political Science Minor Required Courses 
A student may declare a minor in political science by completing five courses, of which four must be in addition to those taken to fulfill requirements of the B.A./B.S. Core.

POL 109 Introduction to Politics
Two 200-level POL 
Two 300-level POL/ENV courses

Latin American and the Caribbean Field Experiences 
Students who enroll in selected political science courses on Latin America, the Caribbean, or sustainable development may earn additional course credit in the context of a faculty-led, group trip to Latin America or the Caribbean that takes place during winter break.  For more information about these field experiences, see the course descriptions for  POL 310and POL 310A ; POL 315 and  POL 315A; and POL 304POL 304A and POL 304B , or e-mail the Political Science Chair.

New Hampshire Presidential Primary
Southern New Hampshire University's location in the largest city of the state with the first-in-the-nation presidential primary offers political science majors a unique opportunity to observe and participate in presidential politics at the grass-roots level.  In  POL 312, which is offered during the height of the New Hampshire presidential primary season, students not only study presidential politics at the grass-roots level, but acquire hands-on experience as interns with presidential campaigns.  For more information about the New Hampshire presidential primary, see The New Hampshire Political Library.
