Substance Abuse
Most students believe that universities are the place where use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs is legitimate; it is a rightful part of the college experience. Often students create an environment where drinking to get drunk, vomiting, and hangovers are seen as normal.Whether subtly or overtly this environment encourages choices that result in negative consequences. No one likes to believe that they are not fully in charge of all decisions concerning personal drug and alcohol use. It is often hard to tell when external pressures or
personal dependence on substance use starts to take away your supposed autonomy. This is a very ticklish point to identify. However, if you are hearing friends voice concern about your substance use, or you plan your day and week around substance use you should come into the Wellness Center for help. There are some self quizzes at the link sites, along with some very worthwhile reading and suggestions for self-examination. Changing a habit of substance use is a challenge; it makes sense to get positive help available.
