Graduating Student Hearing Board

The university has established a Graduating Student Hearing Board (GSHB). This board has been authorized to investigate and to hear allegations of serious conduct violations by students participating in the May graduation exercises. It may invoke sanctions ranging from letters of warning to barring a student from participating in the graduation exercises. The GSHB will review allegations of serious conduct violations occurring anytime from the night of the last class day through the night before graduation.

If you are not graduating, but have received permission to march in the ceremony, you may also be subject to other disciplinary measures during your remaining time at the university. If you have permission to be in residence for the summer or for some time after final exams, this board will also review any Tier 1 disciplinary matters.

The GSHB will consist of at least two of the underclass student members Student/Staff Disciplinary Review Board, the faculty and staff members of that board and the co-chairs of the senior week program for the coming year. Minimum quorum will be three staff or faculty members and two students. The chair will be the chair of the Student/Staff Disciplinary Review Board.

Proceedings of the GSHB are informal. No tape recording will be made. The GSHB will discuss the matter after your hearing. You will be notified immediately of its decision. You may appeal the decision to the president of the university, who often will observe the hearing.
