Laws and Regulations
The university is not a sanctuary from civil and criminal law, having interests that must be preserved by its own regulations, which may overlap laws of the surrounding communities. Thus, if you violate city, state, or federal law, you are subject both to prosecution and to university disciplinary action.
Student Arrests
As Southern New Hampshire University students, you are expected to abide both by university regulations as well as local, state and federal laws. Since the interests of the university community often coincide with the broader public interest, if you are arrested for violations of local, state, or federal law—even if the alleged infraction occurred off campus - you may also be subjected to disciplinary action when your actions violate university regulations at the same time. The university reserves the right to review the cases of arrested students in order to secure the safety and mission of the university community.
If you are arrested or have a criminal matter pending against you, you may request the presence of legal counsel during any disciplinary proceeding. Your attorney may only advise you regarding the legal consequences of your participation or of answering questions. If you choose not to participate or to answer questions, decisions will be made without your input. No appeal may be based on the consequences of your choice not to participate.
You may avoid potentially adverse consequences of disciplinary proceedings by choosing to withdraw from the university instead of participating in those proceedings as required. Should you do so, no decision will be made until you agree to participate in the disciplinary proceedings.
You may not enroll in any program offered by Southern New Hampshire University until the disciplinary process is concluded.
