Student Leadership Development
Camp Synergy is an experiential ropes on campus composed of individual and group physical challenges which require a combination of teamwork skills and individual commitment. Goals of the course included: increase the participants sense of personal confidence, increase mutual support within a group, develop an increased level of agility and physical coordination, initiate strategies in place to insure the transfer of active learning on the course to the participants jobs, education, or personal life.
Leadership Development:
The Office of Campus Programming & Leadership offers leadership programs, workshops, and services for clubs, organizations and individual groups. Clubs and organizations are also encouraged to attend regional and/ or national leadership conferences if funding has been provided to their organization.
The Leadership Training Insititue:
The Leadership Training Institute (LTI) was established to assist new students and current leaders to transition into college leadership opportunities by teaching them the skills that are needed to serve successfully in leadership positions. The program will help students discover within themselves the qualities that make them effective people and leaders. LTI will help direct leaders into appointed and elected leadership positions that are available on campus and transferring those skills so that their marketability upon graduation is improved.
Spring 2008
Structure:
LTI will encourage participants to build relationships with the other members of the team. These connections can be made in and outside of the formal organized sessions. LTI will help the participant determine their short-term and long term leadership goals. The program will last for one semester consisting of approximately 8 session planned through out the semester. Sessions will be determined after evaluating the schedules of those accepted in to the program.
Topics:
LTI is a one semester commitment covering the following topics:
- Event Planning
- Leadership styles
- How to run a meeting
- Motivation
- Ethics in leadership
- Communication skills
- Presentation skills
- Confrontation styles
- Customer service
Resources:
LTI will utilize blackboard as a form of communication and resource library for participants. All materials needed for the program will be provided by the facilitators.
Other:
A kick off dinner will take place in late January or Early February to welcome those selected into the program.
Selection process for the Spring 2007 LTI team is going on now!!! Applications can be picked up and returned to the Vice Presidents office of Student Affairs located near the ATM in the Student Center. We will be accepting applications until Friday, December 15, 2006. When you return your application please sign up for a half hour interview to discuss your candidacy.
