Commuter Students Rights & Responsibilities

Commuter students are important/valued members of the University community and as such have rights similar to all students. Equally, they also have responsibilities as campus citizens. It is the responsibility of all commuter students to know their rights and responsibilities.
  • Commuter students have the right to access all public areas of the campus when the campus is defined as being open. Specific areas such as the Student Center have been designed to accommodate commuter students.
  • Commuters have the right to access all student resources.
  • Commuter students may access all activities and student groups per the guidelines stated in the rights and responsibilities.
  • Commuters have access to private areas of the campus, such as faculty offices and resident halls at the invitation of the occupants of those areas.
  • Commuters may park on campus per the established parking policies established by the Office of Public Safety.
  • Commuters students may have guests on campus per the guidelines and responsibilities stated in the guest registration policy.
  • Commuters may visit resident students areas upon invitation. When a commuter visits the residence area at times or with such frequency or length as to assume the rights and privileges exclusively afforded to resident students, a commuter is required to register as a “guest” with a designated resident student host and as such is required to follow the guidelines established for guests (see the particular note to guest parking regulations). Commuters who infringe on the rights of resident students or who fail to follow SNHU guidelines may lose the privilege of visiting resident student areas.  No person may reside in a residence hall room who has not contracted for its use; individuals who are not Southern New Hampshire University students may not reside in SNHU residence halls.
  • As with all students, commuters are responsible to know and follow the guidelines set forth in the student handbook.
