Brian Horan was named men's tennis coach at Southern Hampshire University in the summer of 2003 after serving as head coach of both the men's and women's programs at SNHU since 2000.
Both tennis programs were reinstated at SNHU prior to the 2000-01 school year. The college offered men's tennis as an intercollegiate sport from the early 1970's until 1991. It consistently ranked as one of the top men's programs in the region and posted undefeated seasons in 1980 and 1989. The college originally added women's tennis in 1978 and it remained a varsity sport until 1991.
A member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) since 1985, Horan has been associated with the Algonquin Tennis Center for several years. He served on its Board of Directors from 1994 to 1996 and has conducted private and group lessons at the club since 1995. The 2006 Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year, he has guided SNHU to an appearance in the NE-10 Tournament each of the last three seasons (2004, 05, 06).
Horan served as varsity girl's tennis coach at Central High School from 1995 to 1997. He led the Little Green to an undefeated season (19-0) and a Class L state title in 1995. Central posted a 16-3 record and advanced to the finals of the state tournament in 1996. Horan posted a combined 44-10 record over his three seasons at Central.
A lifelong resident of Manchester, NH, Horan is a 1971 graduate of the University of New Hampshire. He was a three-year member of the basketball team at UNH and also lettered in tennis his senior year.
Horan also earned a master's degree in health care management from the University of Minnesota.
