Full-time - SLA Institute for Language Education: Assistant Professor

The Institute for Language Education invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).  This is a 10-month faculty position with teaching duties in the Intensive English program at the undergraduate level as well as in the Master’s program, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (MS-TEFL) and ESOL certification.  Teaching responsibilities in TESOL include courses on academically-focused listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and culture studies.  Graduate courses in the TEFL program include language acquisition, curriculum development strategies and techniques for teaching specific skills, evaluation and assessment, and socio-cultural contexts of language instruction.  The teaching load is seven courses per year.

A Master’s degree in TESOL or closely related field is required, although an earned doctorate will be considered an advantage.  State certification in TESOL is strongly preferred.   The successful candidate must have substantial post-secondary teaching experience in an Intensive English program and in teacher-training.  We seek someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills; flexibility and adaptability to different types of teaching assignments; understanding of teamwork; and intercultural sensitivity.  Proficiency in a language other than English and experience in teaching abroad are desirable but not required. The successful candidate will also have a clearly defined research agenda that is borne out by a record of publication and/or contributions at regional/national/international conferences.
