Cheerleading Team Places 6th at Nationals

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern New Hampshire University cheerleading team came away with a sixth-place showing in the all-girl Division II category at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) 2007 Cheer and Dance Collegiate Championship. The event was held in Daytona, Fla. this past weekend. SNHU, which was making its fifth-straight appearance at the national championship, placed sixth for the second-straight year and equaled its best-ever finish.

SNHU scored a 7.43 in preliminary-round action and improved its score to a 7.65 in the championship round. Elmira College claimed the national championship with a score of 8.73. UMass Dartmouth (8.54), Framingham State College (8.22), Azusa Pacific University (8.21) and the University of Pitt-Johnstown (7.86) rounded out the top-five.

The teams were judged on form, difficulty of stunts, uniqueness of routine, tumbing and execution.

SNHU’s 21-member team includes New Hampshire natives Lindsay Fegan (Plainfield, NH), Kathy Geddis (Franklin, NH) and Kristina Vamvouklis (Hampton, NH).
