Elizabeth Van Hooydonk '04
- Student; On Campus
“The teachers even gave me their home phone numbers in case I had any questions or concerns,” she says
Elizabeth transferred into the Southern New Hampshire University's BASHA program, intended for students with two- and three-year degrees who wish to earn bachelor’s degrees and gain U.S. industry experience. After taking the required classes, Elizabeth interned at the New Orleans Marriott, where she booked hotel suites and supervised and trained her staff.
She now is back on campus, a graduate assistant working on her master’s degree in hospitality administration and operating the university’s on-campus inn, the Granite State Guest House. From scheduling to decorating and supervising to socializing, Elizabeth is in charge of making guests feel comfortable and at ease.
She sees herself as an event planner for a large hotel or company within five years.
“SNHU gives me more of a managerial aspect as well as operational. In the field of hospitality, you need both to succeed,” she says. “My education and experiences at Southern New Hampshire University will get me there.”
