Strong Second Day Lifts Penmen To 4th Place Finish
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. - The Southern New Hampshire University golf team placed fourth out of 15 schools at the Peter King Memorial Invitational hosted by Dowling College this past Saturday and Sunday at the par-71 Long Island National Golf Course.
Saint Thomas Aquinas College placed first with a team score of 602 (+34). Pace University (617), Post University (620), Southern New Hampshire University (630) and Bryant University (631) rounded out the top five. SNHU bouced back from a 319 team score during the opening day and posted the fourth-best team score during the second round with a 311. Patrick Schwarze of Saint Thomas Aquinas took individual honors, as he shot three-under par (68) during second-round action and posted a two-day score of 141 (-1).
SNHU was paced by senior Mitch Edwards (Woodstock, NH) and sophomore Andrew Maziarz (Cumberland, RI). Edwards shot a four-over-par 75 during second-round action and placed 12th out of 53 golfers with a two-day score of 157 (+15). Maziarz fired a seven-over-par 78 during opening round action and placed 19th with a 158 (+16).
Seniors Ed Boyd (Woburn, MA) and Ed Natti (Lisbon, NH) and junior Matt Lucchese (Woburn, MA) also competed for the Penmen. Boyd and Natti both placed 24th with a 159 (+17). Boyd carded a 79 during round action, while Natti scored a 76 during second-round action. Lucchese placed 40th with a 163 (80-83).
The Penmen return to Saturday (4/14) when they take part in opening round action of the Le Moyne College Spring Invitational in Marcellus, N.Y.
