Name 2007 Scholarship Winners

Manchester, N.H. (July 25, 2007) – Southern New Hampshire University's School of Community Economic Development (SCED) and NeighborWorks® America is pleased to announce the Masters Programs Scholarship Initiative awardees for 2007. This initiative and scholarship opportunity is designed to strengthen and expand  SCED’s and NeighborWorks® America’s previous partnership while simultaneously building the organizational capacity of NeighborWorks® America staff, Training Institute Faculty and partnering  NeighborWorks® America organizations.

This scholarship initiative provides substantial scholarship monies for NeighborWorks America staff, Training Institute Faculty and NeighborWorks® America partnering organization staff members who wish to attend any SCED Masters program. This year’s recipients will receive more than $28,000 in scholarship dollars towards their Masters studies.

This year’s scholarship awardees are participating in all three of the Masters Programs offered by SCED (i.e. Masters of Science, Masters of Arts in CED Policy & Masters of Arts in Non-Profit Management). These individuals have also provided more than 35 years of service to NeighborWorks® America!

The 2007 awardees are:

·        Sarah (Sal) Steven Hubbard – NeighborWorks® America, Boston District

·        Jorge Santana - NeighborWorks® America, Washington, D.C.

·        Andrew Loubert - NeighborWorks® America Training Institute Faculty

·        Jason Zavala - NeighborWorks® America Training Institute Faculty

·        Tanya Washington – Neighborhood Housing Services, Baltimore, MD

·        Robert Corley – Neighborhood Housing Services, Quincy, MA

·        Michael Bowie - NeighborWorks® HomeOwnership Center of Worcester, Worcester, MA

SCED is the only program in the country to confer masters and doctorate degrees in community economic development. It advocatesCED as a way to improve marginalized communities. Through its students, faculty and staff, SCED developed an effective peer-learning model to provide practitioners, policy-makers and researchers the skills to advance their work.

NeighborWorks® America provides financial support, technical assistance and training for communities across the nation, including the NeighborWorks® network – a nationwide network of more than 240 community development organizations working in more than 4,400 urban, suburban and rural communities across America. These organizations engage in revitalization strategies that strengthen communities and transform lives. In the last five years alone, NeighborWorks® organizations have generated more than $10 billion in reinvestment and helped more than 780,000 families of modest means purchase or improve their homes or secure safe, decent rental or mutual housing.
