MANCHESTER, N.H. – A goal by freshman Katherine Ross (Brunswick, ME) with just over 27 minutes left to play capped a three-goal comeback by the Southern New Hampshire University women’s soccer team as it erased an early 2-0 deficit to post a 3-2 win over No. 19 Saint Leo University Thursday afternoon at Larkin Field. It marked the season opener for both schools.

Ross, playing in her first collegiate game, took a long pass from Lori Robinson (Bow, NH) and fired a shot from eight yards out that slid inside the left post. Nicole Ebner (Rochester, NY) also added an assist. Eight minutes earlier, Ebner had knotted the game at 2-2 when she took a pass from Laurie Boland (Worcester, Mass.) and scored her first goal of the season.

Saint Leo opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Evelina Viiri (Heby, Sweden) lofted a free kick from just outside the box on the left side that found the upper right corner of the Penmen goal. The Lions made it 2-0 at the 32:34 mark when Chrissy Darwell (Cranston, RI) collected a left to right corner kick in front of the goal and one-timed it past SNHU keeper Stef Young (Natick, MA). The Penmen would close out the first half scoring just 1:23 before intermission when Boland played a ball through the box that Alyssa Integlia (Johnston, RI) collected and fired past Lion netminder Lauren Hudson (Odessa, FL).

Both teams fired 13 shots at goal. Young made eight saves for the Penmen, while Hudson stopped four Penmen attempts at goal.

SNHU opens Northeast-10 play next Wednesday (Aug. 29) when it travels to Merrimack College for a 7:00 contest.
