MANCHESTER, N.H. – Dan Pelc (Hamilton, ONT) made five saves en route to his second shutout of the season and 19th of his career as Southern New Hampshire University opened Northeast-10 men’s soccer play with a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Merrimack College at Larkin Field on Wednesday evening. It marked the second-straight scoreless tie for the Penmen, who are now 0-0-3 on the season and 0-0-1 in the league. Merrimack, which has yet to allow a goal all season, is now 2-0-1 and 0-0-1 in the NE-10.
Pelc, who has not allowed a goal in his last 240:07 of action dating back to the season opener against Saint Leo moved into a tie for third place on the SNHU career shutout list. He is now tied with Trevor Holbrook (1986-89) and Ante Cop (1995-97) with 19 shutouts apiece.
Merrimack goalkeeper Rob Pedra (South Hamilton, MA) made seven saves for the Warriors, who were outshot 10-8 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire is idle until September 5 when it hosts Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 match at 7:00. Merrimack returns to action Saturday when it faces Dominican in the first round of the AIC Tournament in Springfield, MA at noon.
