MANCHESTER, N.H. – A goal by Danielle Deschene (Salisbury, MA) in the 54th minute lifted the University of Bridgeport women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over Southern New Hampshire University in the second round of the SNHU Tournament Monday afternoon at Larkin Field.  The Purple Knights, the preseason favorite in the East Coast Conference coaches’ poll, improves to 2-1-1 on the season, while the Penmen are 1-2-1 on the campaign.

After a scoreless first half, Bridgeport got on the board at the 53:17 mark when Elin Harin (Stockholm, Sweden) made a long pass to her right to a streaking Deschene.  After two dribbles, Deschene fired a 20-yarder that went into the left side of the goal past SNHU keeper Stef Young (Natick, MA).

Elina Yletyinen (Lulea, Sweden) made three saves en route to the shutout for Bridgeport.  Young stopped five UB shot attempts as the guests outshot SNHU 13-6.  The Penmen also recorded a pair of team saves on the afternoon.

SNHU returns to Northeast-10 play on Wednesday afternoon when it entertains Assumption College in a 4:00 match at Larkin Field.
