MANCHESTER, N.H.Gabe Mercier’s (Middleboro, MA) goal with 12:48 remaining lifted Southern New Hampshire University to a 1-0 Northeast-10 men’s soccer victory over crosstown rival Saint Anselm College at Larkin Field Wednesday night.  The Penmen remain unbeaten on the season at 1-0-3 overall and 1-0-1 in NE-10 play, while the Hawks fall to 1-3-1 and 0-2 in the league.

After a scoreless first half, Mercier would score the game’s only goal in the 78th minute.  He would cause a turnover 25 yards from the Hawk goal and after two dribbles, fired a 15-yarder into the upper right corner of the goal for his first tally of the season.  The goal was unassisted.

Dan Pelc (Hamilton, ONT) made three saves en route to his third straight shutout and 20th of his career.  He now sits in sole possession of third place on the school’s all-time shutout list, one behind Erik Fernstrom’s 21.  Pelc has not allowed a goal over his last 330:07 of action.  Scott Johnson (Plymouth, MA) made four saves for the Hawks, who were outshot 8-7.
