FAS 390 - Non-Western Art
This course is an introduction to aspects ofýnon-European art created by cultures selected fromýat least two of the following geographic areas:ýAfrica, the Americas (indigenous cultures),ýOceania, Southwest Asia (the Middle East), SouthýAsia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia. Although theýspecific artistic content, geographical coverageýand/or thematic structure of the course may varyýfrom semester to semester, after its completionýstudents should be able to identify and analyzeýselected works of non-Western art with regard toýaesthetics, media, means and content, usingýappropriate vocabulary and demonstrating links toýsuch cultural contexts as history, socialýstructure, philosophy and religion.ýGlobal marker.
