This is the second of a two-part sequence onýpolicy analysis. This sequence aims to provideýa solid theoretical foundation for policy analysisýfrom a CED perspective at national andýinternational levels, and an applied foundationýbased on the skills for conducting policyýanalysis and sharpening the analysis of policyýchoices. It will present a framework that locatesýpolicy design within the larger study of politics,ýpolicy making and democracy. Students willýanalyze the role that social constructions have inýdetermining the charaacteristics of policyýdesigns. Students will also examine rationalesýfor public policy, including market failure, andýcomplementary analysis of government failure.ýMethods for identifying policy problems,ýestablishing evaluation criteria, and reviewýtheory and policy models introduced in CED-858.ýPrerequisite: CED-858.
