Women's Lacrosse Earns NE-10 Tournament Bye, Hosts Semifinal Friday
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 10 in the latest IWLCA Division II poll, has earned the No. 2 seed and a quarterfinal round bye in the 2008 Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The Penmen will host a semifinal game on Friday, May 2 at 7:00 pm against third-seeded Bryant University, a 15-13 winner over No. 6 seed Bentley College Wednesday afternoon.
Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students, children and seniors. All SNHU students with their valid SNHU ID will be admitted free courtesy of PASS.
The Penmen, who posted an overall record of 11-5 and a 9-1 Northeast-10 mark, enter the tourney on a roll as winners of five straight and six of seven. Southern New Hampshire is led offensively by junior Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT), who has recorded a single-season school record 68 points with 44 goals and 24 assists on the season. Freshman Sherry Darrell (Bow, NH) has registered 36 goals and 28 assists for 64 points, while sophomore Carole Lee (Derry, NH) has scored 42 goals and handed out six assists for 48 points. Ten different players have recorded at least 10 points for SNHU.
SNHU defeated Bryant during the regular season, handing the Bulldogs a 23-10 loss on April 19 in Smithfield, RI. Should SNHU advance, it would reach its first-ever NE-10 championship game in women’s lacrosse and would face the winner of Friday’s other semifinal between top-seed Stonehill College and either No. 4 Merrimack College or No. 5 Saint Michael’s College.
