Christopher Cooper, Access Services Librarian

Are they just comic books or are they sequential art? Regardless of what you call them, graphic novels are quickly becoming an important part of academic library collections.  Shapiro Library is building a small collection of graphic novels including the classics of the genre as well as exciting new works. With historical epics, love stories, postmodern pastiche, science fiction, political commentary, and, of course, super hero adventures there is something for almost everyone. The collection contains works that have won the Hugo Award ("Watchmen"), Ignatz Award ("Black Hole"), Kirby Award ("Batman: The Dark Knight Returns"), and even a Pulitzer Prize ("Maus").

So check out the display at the Library Circulation Desk and reevaluate your perception of the graphic novel. Please contact the Shapiro Library Circulation Desk at 645.9605 or circulation@snhu.edu with questions or comments.
