Become an Elementary Education Major and Start Earning your Teaching License

Coursework for the Masters in Elementary Education major combines current theory with teaching techniques and assessment to give you a comprehensive set of tools to help you succeed in today’s classroom. The program leads to initial certification in elementary education in New Hampshire and includes a 16-week student-teaching practicum that you will complete under the close guidance of a full-time teacher.

Candidate for New Hampshire state teacher certification in elementary education, may be accepted to and begin the program of study right away provide they meet undergraduate degree, GPA and Essay requirements for initial admission. Students must pass Praxis I before applying to the student-teaching portion of the program. Prior to student-teaching placement, candidates must also pass the Praxis II test in their chosen subject area.

Depending on your undergraduate transcripts, M.Ed. students may be required to complete additional undergraduate course work to meet New Hampshire teacher certification standards. Prior to acceptance into the program, SNHU will evaluate your transcripts and determine which, if any, general education requirements must be completed before successful completion of the program and recommendation  for teaching licensure.

Certification in general special education K-12 may be added to the elementary or secondary certification programs. The following additional courses are required for certification in general special education.
