Guests are individuals who are not a current SNHU student, faculty or staff member and are not an alumnus of SNHU. Guests may obtain limited borrowing privileges and computer workstation access by either being a currently registered student or employee of a participating NHCUC Library or by purchasing a Shapiro Library Special Borrower card.

How do I Borrow Library Material?
Guests may apply for a Special Borrower card at the library circulation desk for an annual fee of $50.00. Applicants must be over the age of 18, be able to provide a current government issued form of identification and agree to comply with all Shapiro Library and SNHU policies.
NHCUC Consortia Members
Patrons from libraries participating in the NHCUC Libraries borrowing agreement may borrow up to five items at a time from Shapiro Library subject to some restrictions.
What Can I Borrow?
A Special Borrower card provides borrowing privileges of up to 20 items from Shapiro Library’s Main circulating collection, the Education Resource Center collection, the McNaughton collection, and Government Documents. Reference books, periodicals and microform material must be used in the library. Electronic devices are not permitted for checkout to Special Borrowers.
How Long Can I Have Library Material?
Library material circulates for 21 days and maybe renewed up to 5 times provided there are no holds. The Library reserves the right to recall an item at any time with a shortened due date.
How Do I Renew Material?
Library material may be renewed up to 5 times provided that there are no holds without bringing items into the library.
You may renew Shapiro Library material online by logging with your name and library barcode number in the “My Account” feature of the Library Catalog.
You may renew Shapiro Library material by contacting the Shapiro Library Circulation Desk at 603.645.9605.
You may renew Shapiro Library material in person at the Shapiro Library Circulation Desk.
What Are the Overdue Fines?
The library does not charge daily fines but when a book is more than three weeks overdue it is considered lost and a non-refundable processing fee of $15 is charged in addition to a replacement charge of at least $50.
What Access Do Special Borrowers have to Library Computers?
Special Borrowers may check out an access key to use Shapiro Library computer workstations. All library users are required to adhere to Shapiro Library and Southern New Hampshire University policies including the SNHU Network Acceptable Use Policy and the SNHU File Sharing Policy.
Can Special Borrowers use the Printers, Photocopiers, and Scanners?
Special Borrowers who would like to print, photocopy, or scan will need to create a PenmenPrint account. Special Borrowers will need to add money using a major credit card or their personal PayPal account. There is a minimum $5 transaction which is only payable via electronic payment. Printing and copying costs are available at the Shapiro Library Circulation Desk. Any unspent balance will remain in your PenmenPrint account but is not refundable. Library guests using their own computing devices are limited to printing Microsoft Office and PDF documents. Guests that do not have a Special Borrower card are not able to print, copy or scan.
Special Borrowers may use library open and individual study space but may not reserve conference rooms or the Shapiro Library Training Room. Special Borrowers and guests are required to adhere to all University and Library policies.
