Frequently Asked Questions About the MFA

Q. Do I have to be a published writer to be accepted into the program?

The MFA program is not limited to published writers. But applicants should be motivated, ready to commit significant time to their writing, and be aware of how an MFA in writing will fit into their long-term plans.

Q. For what will this degree prepare me?

The MFA will prepare students for teaching writing, for working in the editing and publishing industry, and for becoming authors of published books.

Q. Do the tuition and residency fees cover housing and meals during campus residencies?

The tuition and residency fees cover all housing (aside from travel-related) and most meals during the residencies.

Q. Will I need to rent a car during the residencies?

Students traveling from out of town fly into the Manchester Boston Regional Airport in Manchester, NH, and if flying in the day before the residency, take a shuttle to the Holiday Inn Airport on Brown Avenue where the program has a blocked, group rate. (Students are responsible for making all travel-related reservations.) The program provides bus and shuttle services for the remainder of the residency. For those students driving to the residency, parking is permitted at no cost.

Q. Can I complete the program in less than two years?

The MFA program cannot be condensed. Students must complete the program in its entirety to graduate.

Q. Will I have a private room during the residencies?

Yes, all faculty and students will have private rooms at the Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa.

Q. Do I need to make reservations at the Mountain View Grand?

The program director makes all reservations (aside from travel-related) for students.

Q. Do I need to register myself for classes?

The program director registers all students for classes.
