Master's in Education - Build Your Students’
Literacy Skills

Literacy is one of the most important parts of education. Gain critical skills to effectively assess and assist students in grades K-12 to improve their literacy with SNHU's Reading and Writing Specialist degree, available online and on campus. Adding a reading and writing specialist credential can enhance your marketability.

This 39-credit reading specialist degree program includes in-depth study of language acquisition and development as well as effective reading and writing teaching practices. Course study involves theoretical principles in reading assessment and instruction, as well as hands-on classroom experience to put principles into practice.

Acceptance into the reading specialist Master of Education program requires candidates to be currently licensed, active teachers with three years of teaching experience. Because only certified teachers are accepted into the online and on-campus reading and writing specialist degree program, no Praxis I or Praxis II exams are required.

Upon successful completion of the reading specialist degree program, whether online or on campus, you will be eligible for licensure in New Hampshire as a Reading and Writing Specialist (grades K-12).

Candidates seeking a comparable teaching or administrative license in a state other than New Hampshire must meet the out-of-state certification/licensure requirements for your state to be licensed. Please note that we are currently accepting applications only from residents of the following states for this program: New Hampshire, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Vermont and Virginia.
