BS in Game Programming and Development – Careers

Video Games — A Large and Fast-Growing Industry

With 59% of the American public playing video games, it’s an industry that rivals the film industry and dwarfs the music business in size. An online Game Programming and Development degree prepares you to get in on this large and thriving creative industry.

The facts: The Bureau of Labor and Statistics estimates that software developers and similar job titles will grow 22% between 2012 and 2022. That blows most other categories away. Other reports estimate that direct employment in the video game industry “...grew at a rate more than 13 times the growth of the overall U.S. labor market between 2009-2012.”

Compensation is equally promising. Programmers with less than three years experience are earning $70,637, according to the 2014 Gamasutra Salary Survey.

Whether you see yourself as a Game Programmer, Video Game Developer, Tools Programmer, A.I. Programmer, Middleware Programmer, Software Engineer, Game Engineer or Game Designer, it all adds up to a fun, fulfilling way to make a living.
