If you enjoy working with middle school and high school students and have an interest in history, politics, economics and geography, then an MEd in Secondary Education in Social Studies could lead to a meaningful and rewarding career. Southern New Hampshire University’s master’s in secondary education program has a history of preparing successful social studies teachers.

The master’s in Secondary Education-Social Studies program is offered at the SNHU Manchester, N.H., campus, an easy commute from communities throughout the region. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible for licensure in New Hampshire in Secondary Education / Social Studies (grades five through 12).

The social studies master’s degree program is designed for those with an undergraduate degree in history, social studies, economics, or a related area such as political science who wish to bring their expertise to teaching.  Related degrees must have included 10 undergraduate classes in history or social studies. New Hampshire requires that all secondary education candidates complete 30 undergraduate credit hours in specific content areas for certification. A review of your transcript(s) will be conducted and the results reported to you before the end of your first term at SNHU. Based on this review, you may be required to take additional coursework to meet the state's content area requirements. Any missing coursework must be completed prior to student teaching.
