"I couldn't have asked for a better school to go to."

I live in Northern Maine. I didn't want to go to college far away, so I decided to stay local and go to the university a town over from where I graduated high school. I worked full-time at a local McDonald's while I attended school. Little did I know, my mom would be diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of my semester. At that point, I was very thankful I hadn't gone away, because I was able to spend time with her. When she was diagnosed, she was already at stage V colon cancer. This was the worst thing that could possibly happen to me; my mom was all I had. The spring semester of my junior year she passed away, while I was on school vacation. A month after she passed, I found out I was pregnant with my first and only child. I knew I couldn't give up on school. My mom wouldn't have wanted that.

I started school that next semester, extremely nervous. I kept with it, though, going to school and working full-time. I continued working up until six days before my daughter was due. She was born the day I was supposed to start my last semester of college. I only missed two days of school. Then I went right back into it full-time. I took a few months off from work to be able to focus on school, but eventually I had to be a student, a mom and a full-time employee again. I graduated and got my bachelor's in accounting, which I am very proud of!

I took a few semesters off, and I realized I wanted to go back to get my master's. No schools up here offer master's, so I decided to do some research. And I found Southern New Hampshire University online. I figured I would never get in, but I decided I would give it a try. I couldn't believe it the day I got accepted! I was so happy. This was the best decision I have ever made. I am able to work, take care of my family and go to school. I love the online courses. I can easily work them around my schedule. I couldn't have asked for a better school to go to.
