"It was like having someone on my team at the university—nobody succeeds without a team behind them."
As the president of DiChiara Creative Advertising & Marketing, Benny DiChiara went back to school not so much to advance his career, but rather to complete an unfinished personal goal. Benny completed his goal at the age of 51 and is the first of his six siblings to complete a degree. By earning his bachelor’s degree in marketing, Benny hoped to be an inspiration to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Benny looked into many schools, knowing he wanted a brick-and-mortar institution with online program offerings. As a nonprofit university with an 80-year history of educating working adults, with its main campus in Manchester, N.H., SNHU was the perfect fit. Of course, attending school online was not a walk in the park.
“Doing school online takes dedication,” he said. “You have a set schedule of things required and have to have the wherewithal to do it. If you want success, you have to make time to get it.”
Benny also had a strong support system behind him including advisor Autumn Fillion. When he considered changing his major, Autumn was there to help him.
“It was like having someone on my team at the university—nobody succeeds without a team behind them,” Benny said about his advisor. “It was really important that I had that teamwork, especially being online and having everyone so accessible.”
