"I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the M.A. in History program and cost. I could actually afford it."
I always wanted to go to graduate school for public history after my undergraduate studies. I love museums and archives. There is always something to learn from a single letter or even a hair comb. I grew up around museums and have always had a fascination for history. However, before graduating with my B.A. in History in 2010, my step-dad passed away from cancer, and my mom lost her job soon after. I put my dreams on hold to help her out and stayed close to home. I didn't think I could ever afford graduate school with the rising tuition costs and my income. In northern New York, there aren't any colleges with a public history M.A. program to enroll in. I would have to move out of state to be able to obtain a degree in my desired field. However, there was no way I could afford to relocate to another state to attend school. After seeing commercials for SNHU online, I thought I would check it out for myself. I never really thought it was possible to do my degree online.
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the M.A. in History program and cost. I could actually afford it. After talking it over with my mom and my boyfriend, they fully supported the idea. Even my former professor and longtime friend in Maine was over the moon with my decision. I haven't been disappointed yet with the program and once completed, I will be on to my next goal: a Ph.D. I can honestly say if you persevere and continue working toward your goals, you can reach them. Even if life throws a few curve balls at you, stick with it! At the end of the day, you will be proud of all the work you have done.
