"SNHU has given me confidence to go after the goals that I want."
Doreen Boutin ’07 and ‘10 enrolled in her first SNHU course when she was 33.
“I did go to college when I was 18,” Doreen says. “However, I left school to start a family. When, I became divorced at 33, I decided that I wanted to finish what I had started. So I went back to school.”
While completing her associate degree in marketing online, Doreen worked full time at the Verizon Wireless Arena, raised her teenage son and volunteered for the Manchester Young Professionals Network.
“Being online fit my schedule. You can do it at any time – at midnight or on a lunch break. The flexibility is great,” Doreen says. “SNHU has given me confidence to go after the goals that I want; it has helped me become the person that I am.”
After two years of studying online, Doreen began working toward her bachelor’s degree in psychology, which she completed in 2010. She was chosen as the 2010 SNHU Student Commencement Speaker.
An expert in multitasking, Doreen is now working on her master's degree in community mental health and interning at the Office of Youth Services in Manchester. She also started a networking group for social services workers.
Her end game?
“I want to work with at-risk kids. I try to help them understand that their lives can be better, by making better choices,” she says. “I didn’t come from the best background, but I made some good choices and changed the outcome of my life.”
