"My instructors have been more than supportive."
My name is Linda Shea. I’m an animal control professional in Frederick, Md., working on a Master of Arts in Communication with a concentration in New Media & Marketing. I returned to school after years of working and raising a family. My daughter is currently a junior in college, and she is my inspiration. She has encouraged me in furthering my education, and every day I am grateful that she did.
I knew I needed convenient, online education that would offer the support I needed to return to academics after two decades (yikes!) away. SNHU has provided everything I’ve needed in the way of course suggestions and “touching base” regularly to make sure things are going well.
I was concerned that a virtual classroom would be a difficult environment in which to engage my classmates, but my concerns were unfounded. Discussion boards allow for ongoing dialogue with my peers. My instructors have been more than supportive. During my first semester at SNHU, Professor Donna Lloyd-Kolkin never gave up on helping me with my struggle to understand APA format. At this point, I have successfully mastered the concept of APA, and I think of Professor Lloyd-Kolkin and her kind persistence every time I write a paper or journal.
My suggestion to anyone considering SNHU, especially anyone with a similar background to mine, as far as returning to school after two decades (yikes!) is: Do it. I have really enjoyed the experience. Making the decision to return to school was the hard part, but I am so glad I did. SNHU has made everything from that point forward easy . . . even APA format.
