Lyndie Simpson

MS Accounting, Class of 2015

"I am looking forward to the possibilities the completion of this degree will bring."

When I moved back to Maine in 1997 with my one-year-old son, I was looking to continue my education so I could support us. My search led me to the Brunswick campus of SNHU, then called New Hampshire College. The campus advisor, Ron Poulin, suggested completing an associate degree in liberal arts. At the completion of that degree, I continued on, and received a B.A. in Humanities.

For the next five years, I worked in a local elementary school teaching and managing the school computer lab. In 2006, I decided I wanted a degree in accounting. I went back to SNHU, and Ron quickly had me registered in classes. A certificate, associate degree and a B.S. in Accounting later, I breathed a huge sigh of relief to be done.

I worked for a small CPA firm as a staff accountant for three years preparing tax returns and conducting audits, and then decided to apply my degree in another area of accounting. Since then I have been the manager of the finance department for an export management company. My current boss asked if I wanted to further my education, and I said I would like to work on a master’s in accounting.

Thanks to the staff at SNHU and the support of family and friends, I have almost completed my master’s degree. I am looking forward to the possibilities the completion of this degree will bring.
