BA Creative Writing & English, Class of 2016

"My love of learning and the ability to manage time, along with the tools that SNHU provides, have been the keys to my success."

We all have dreams, but circumstances in life often require us to take a detour from our intended path. I have always wanted to be a writer, but instead I became a network administrator. That is a far cry from the creative world I had in mind. Circumstances took a hand again a couple of years ago when a disability prevented me from continuing in my position as a network administrator. I decided that it was time to pursue my dream.

After researching available online university degree programs, I found Southern New Hampshire University had a creative writing degree program. I also found that it was an accredited university that was well reviewed by both students and faculty. Going to school requires a lot of devotion and self-discipline, but it also requires what SNHU provides — great instructors and advisors who are willing to help you along the way. My love of learning and the ability to manage time effectively, along with the tools that SNHU provides, have been the keys to my success in class. Since beginning the degree program, I have learned that my creative writing skills can be used for much more than I ever dreamed. In addition to working on a book, I have also begun writing professionally for a company — providing marketing content and technical articles. I plan to graduate summa cum laude and become a published writer. Getting my degree is the fulfillment of two dreams — becoming a college graduate and a writer. I may have taken a detour, but I am finally back on the right path.
