"I am living proof that it is possible to make a complete change in your career via education."
I am living proof that it is possible to make a complete change in your career via education. Scary as it may be, it is possible and the reward is happiness. My undergraduate studies focused on the field of criminal justice with a minor in accounting. Upon graduation I was faced with the choices many criminal justice majors face: take the civil service exam, or pursue a path in law. I took the exams and eventually landed a position in law enforcement.
This experience changed my life and taught me many things about myself, but I knew that I needed to make a change. This change came in the form of my uncle. He was a mentor to me. He was very much into the finance world and he knew that with my skills in math I would be a valuable asset to any company. I decided to pursue a master's in accounting and to extend my knowledge from undergrad.
Unfortunately, in 2011, I learned that my uncle had cancer. With little time left to spend together, we made every visit count. I applied to SNHU and they accepted me into the accounting/auditing program.
In July of 2012, my uncle succumbed to cancer and I made a promise to him that I would complete my degree and obtain my CPA certification. I am now one semester away from my master's and I am starting my examinations in the fall. I am very thankful for the opportunity SNHU has given me and the mentoring and motivation my uncle provided. I know he is watching me proudly and my family could not be more excited for my accomplishments.
