My first advisor played an instrumental role in my success.

My goal has always been to achieve my degree, but I put it off for close to a decade. Getting a degree has nothing to do with career advancement, but rather is a personal goal, as it not only enhances my education, but also will serve as another accomplishment in my life.

I want to proudly display a degree that I earned via hard work and dedication. I have run eight marathons and over thirty-five half marathons in the last five years. Now, I’m applying the same dedication I apply to these races to achieving my BS in Business Studies with a concentration in Organizational Leadership at SNHU.

The folks at SNHU have made attending online classes very accessible, and enjoyable as well. I’m able to effectively balance schoolwork with a busy work schedule that involves occasional travel and work weeks in excess of sixty-five hours.

Sandra Queenan, my first advisor, played an instrumental role in my success, as she was not only supportive, but was always there to answer my questions and keep me on the right track. I look forward to the next steps in my journey at SNHU and the pursuit of my degree!

I'm in my first year of studies at SNHU. I love the online environment because, while you work at your own pace, you are still held to a standard and a deadline. I decided to attend SNHU due to the convenience and comfort. As someone who has dealt with anxiety—especially when around groups of people—I never did well in physical schools. SNHU online is such a great fit for me. Although I chose not to attend the brick and mortar school, it is a reassuring that SNHU has one.

I'm eighteen years old and going for a BA in Psychology. My long-term plan changes every now and then, but I know I am in the right field. I know I'm going somewhere great, and it's going to take some time to get there. I've had to learn great time management skills due to being a full-time student, working full-time and dealing with my husband’s crazy military schedule. I know this skill will only help me in the future.

For as long as I can remember, I have always been intrigued by the fashion world. It has always been a dream of mine to work beside some of the top designers in the world and maybe even to become one myself one day.

While teaching myself the basics of sewing and tailoring, I decided I wanted to learn the business side of fashion as well. Not even a year ago, I was attending a a local university pursuing my fashion merchandising degree, when I found out my husband, a United States Airman, would be stationed in Italy for a few years.

I began to panic. How was I going to finish school or afford it in a different country? Since my major isn’t considered common or “transferrable,” finding a school that would allow me to obtain my bachelor’s in fashion merchandising online became a stressful battle.

Finally, I came across SNHU. Not only did SNHU offer my major, but it was affordable! SNHU was so great about making sure as many of my credits as possible transferred over. This was a huge relief. Since joining the online program, I feel more confident in reaching my goals. It’s great that I can still work toward my degree even while being on the other side of the globe!

SNHU has been my salvation. I transferred to SNHU in 2012 from a university that didn't show much interest in their students and always gave them a hard time—especially when trying to register for classes. Class registration would literally take one to two days.

Finally, I had enough and started searching for a university that focused on their students and provided all the tools necessary to launch a successful career. I'm so glad to have found SNHU. In time, I will be graduating with a bachelor’s in creative writing and English.

I would like to thank all of my professors—especially Professor Conner—because they have shown great passion in what they teach and truly want their students to be successful. My advisor, Leslie Rocheleau, has been very supportive and helpful throughout the term. She always reaches out to me and makes sure I have everything that I need to succeed. I would aso like to thank Leah Meredith, my career advisor, for always providing great advice, recommending great webinars and understanding my passion to get where I want to go in life.

SNHU was the best decision I have made in my life and I recommend this school to anyone who wants a great education at a school that has a passion for their students’ success.

I have been out of high school since 1991, and working in the mortgage industry since 1995. The lending industry is full of ebbs and flows, which is not always good when trying to keep yourself afloat.

When I became pregnant with my first child in 2007, I knew it was time for me to begin my road to higher education and time to consider a new career in justice studies. I have taken time off, but was always determined to complete my education goals. I am hoping that with SNHU I can attain this goal and finally get the degree I have been striving for.

I will be 42 years old in May, and I am proof that it's never to late to start the process. I see the finish line ahead and will be so excited to make it across!

I completed my bachelor's degree in hospitality management on campus at SNHU. I felt challenged each and every day, due in no small part to the amazing staff in the hospitality department. They taught me to work hard and strive for success. Much of my success today is due to those professors.

After graduation and working nearly six months in a very difficult job market, I craved the challenge of higher education. When I decided to go back to school for my master's degree in marketing, there was no doubt in my mind that I would choose SNHU. The online classes are an excellent way to learn while gaining hands-on work experience and working up the career ladder.

I am a 24-year-old, who recently graduated from a local university with my bachelor's in consumer affairs. After completing my undergraduate degree, I felt the need to continue my education and to learn as much as I can about business.

Within a few weeks of graduation, I enrolled at SNHU. I knew I wanted to do my online MBA here even before finishing my undergraduate work. I had done hours of research on pricing and criteria to get accepted into graduate schools, and I felt that getting started as early as possible was my plan.

I was not completely satisfied with my consumer affairs degree and felt the need to achieve more scholastically. I am only in my third term at SNHU, but have a 3.89 GPA, which is the best I have done dating back even to high school.

I find the workload challenging, but intriguing. All my classes have been very organized and insightful. I look forward to learning more and eventually becoming a project manager for a well-established company!

Shaida Anderson

Transferring to SNHU has brought Shaida Anderson’s career aspiration into sharper focus.

Anderson arrived on campus in the fall of 2012 from New Hampshire Technical Institute, where she earned a two-year associate’s degree in hospitality and tourism management in 2011. While pursuing that degree she learned about the opportunity to transfer into SNHU’s hospitality management program, and because SNHU accepts up to 90 transfer credits, she spent a third year taking classes at NHTI.

An Alton, N.H., resident who commutes an hour to SNHU’s Manchester campus three days a week, Anderson began her senior year thinking about a hotel career but through her coursework discovered a stronger interest.

“I really want to own my own restaurant,” she says. “Coming to SNHU has helped me grasp exactly what I want to do.”

A restaurant server starting in her teenage years, Anderson has been working in a Manchester bistro to gain practical experience while studying. Upon graduation, she hopes to move to California or a Spanish-speaking country to work as a bartender. “I feel like I need to know every job before I become management,” she says.

Through her management and finance courses at SNHU, Anderson is laying a foundation from which to work her way up in the industry. “I’ve learned what you need to have in a restaurant to be successful,” she says.

Chris Richter’s business is going to the dogs, and he couldn’t be happier. Chris turned a business plan that he developed while earning his M.B.A. at Southern New Hampshire University into Sam’s Treats, a manufacturer and distributor of gourmet dog biscuits.

“I really enjoyed the professors like Dr. Nick Nugent and instructor Tom McGrevey,” says Chris. “So many faculty were integral in sparking my interest in becoming an entrepreneur. Earning my degree in one year also allowed me to start on something that I was really passionate about.”

The delectable doggie treats come in beef, garlic-flax seed, peanut butter and garlic cheese flavors. Sam’s Treats can be found at 36 statewide locations and Chris is working to create a biscuit specific to the German market.

Chris believed a 100-percent organic dog treat for his dachshund, Pretzel, was far superior to the nutritionally poor biscuits he was finding in most supermarkets. So he launched his business by turning his home into a makeshift canine kitchen and an adjacent barn on his property into the production center.

Before long his doggie treats were the cat’s meow. Chris began receiving requests from international distributors and turned his homespun creation into an overseas sensation.

“There’s no question that learning how to export a product takes a lot of skill and know-how,” says Chris, who now is working on a master’s degree in international business at SNHU. “Identifying which are the best countries to sell to and what the business environments are like in each country is the key to making this business work.”

Christopher Rice

During a yearlong U.S. Army Infantry tour of duty that ended in 2010, Christopher Rice was part of a special task force responsible for forensic profiling of insurgents in Afghanistan. A staff sergeant who is now serving as an Army recruiter not far from SNHU's campus, Rice is working toward a psychology degree with a concentration in forensic psychology, a discipline that applies psychology to criminal investigation and the law. Upon graduation, he'd like to become a psychologist for the Army or in a civilian capacity.

A native of the Cayman Islands who's a U.S. citizen, Rice sought to further his wartime training after returning from Afghanistan. "I started looking into studying forensic psychology to further my aspirations in that career field," Rice says. "SNHU is one of the only schools that offers it at an undergraduate level, so that's what brought me here."

Having earned academic credit from SNHU for his military experience, Rice has taken classes year round and aims to complete his degree in two years. Online courses have provided the flexibility he needs to further his education while still on active duty, he says.

"The online platforms are very user friendly, and the curriculum is very focused," he says. "You're not taking classes that are out of the realm of your degree program, which was really important for me. SNHU offered the degree plan that I wanted. It was the right shoe for the foot."
