"From the first time I spoke with my admission counselor, I felt that this time was going to be different."
I'm a photographer and part-time dog walker. I’ve always wanted to pursue photography full-time, but I've never known how to really make a living in the field. When I was fresh out of high school and went to traditional college, it was too much. I'd never been a traditional student. I was not particularly good at sitting in class, or doing everything on a strict schedule. For me, this also meant that I was not a particularly good student.
I've been to a few online colleges, but I always left after a semester or two because they just didn't work for me. The education was not of the quality I was expecting. After being disappointed and giving up again, I saw a commercial for SNHU and decided to check it out.
From the first time I spoke with my admission counselor, I felt that this time was going to be different. Now, I'm actually enjoying school. I passed a math class with a grade higher than a “C” for the first time ever. In fact, I passed it with a 4.0! I can see now that the end of my very long educational career is in sight. I like that the staff and instructors want to know me, and are not just out for my money. My math instructor last term even helped me to understand mathematical concepts by applying them to photography, and indulging me in allowing me to ramble on about my craft in weekly discussion board posts.
I chose the Creative Writing program because it has always been one of my passions, alongside photography. Both passions are how I escape from stress and stay happy. Eventually, I’d like to combine them both, and venture into photojournalism.
