"Everything I am learning is simply to better myself and learn some new things that I can apply at my current job and to enrich my life."
I had started on a degree years ago in night school in Portsmouth, N.H. at New Hampshire College when I was working and had a young family. In my early twenties, I had also found a job working at a small publishing company where I learned each and every step of the process of bringing publications to life. It was an incredible experience and gave me a strong foundation that I have built a very successful career from. I have worked for several publications, print shops and graphic design businesses. For the past eleven years I have been a graphic designer at Heinemann Publishing in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Going back to school to finish my degree was always in the back of my mind. At the end of last year, I decided that 2014 was the year to do it. To have the ability to take classes from home, online in the evenings and weekends, seemed like the perfect way for me to go. Yet I was nervous. I've taken plenty of classes over the years, but this was different. And I had never taken an online class. My advisor, Katie, was a great cheerleader and just what I needed. She helped me feel connected to the school right from the beginning even though I was learning remotely.
My first two classes were humanities and U.S. history. They were both challenging and wonderful at the same time. This term I am taking a graphic design class. There is always more to learn. I feel great about being back in school. This degree is just for me. I'm not doing it to try and find a better job because I love the job I have now. Everything I am learning is simply to better myself and learn some new things that I can apply at my current job and to enrich my life.
