"The decision to get my master’s degree gave me was a new sense of purpose...a feeling of taking control over at least one aspect of my life."
Joanne Van Vranken hadn’t had a permanent job in nearly four years when she decided to return to school to get her master’s degree online from Southern New Hampshire University. With eight years of experience working in market research, she set her sights on earning an advanced marketing degree and finding full-time employment in the field.
“I was feeling stuck and out of control both personally and professionally,” Van Vranken said. “The first thing that making the decision to get my master’s degree gave me was a new sense of purpose and a feeling of taking control over at least one aspect of my life.”
Van Vranken enrolled in SNHU’s online MS in Marketing degree program with a concentration in market Research and Analysis. Just one year into her master’s degree program, Van Vranken secured a full-time, permanent job in the market research division of a magazine publisher, putting her learning to use as a project and community manager.
Van Vranken credits much of her success to the support she received from her SNHU instructors and advisors, and the flexibility of attending school online, allowing her to balance work, school and other obligations.
“Everyone from your advisor to the faculty is fully committed to making sure you succeed at SNHU,” she said. “I struggled through a few of my classes and my adviser was very proactive about reaching out to see if I needed assistance... SNHU is completely dedicated to your success as a scholar, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their programs to anyone wishing to advance their education.”
