"I regret nothing about my experience with SNHU. The support of the advisory team, instructors and career team have been life-changing."
When Johanna "Joie" Gibson was faced with a potential layoff from her job in television after 22 years in the industry, she realized it was time to complete the bachelor's degree she had started decades earlier.
"Without a degree, my options to work elsewhere were limited," Gibson said. "Receiving my BA became my goal, which I achieved."
Gibson transferred her existing college credits to Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) and completed her online BA in General Studies with a concentration in English Literature in 2015. Three months after graduating, Gibson decided to pursue her MA in English and Creative Writing and begin working toward a new career in writing.
Gibson said her experience at SNHU not only gave her the skills she needed to pursue a new career, it also gave her a new-found confidence thanks to the guidance and support of her instructors and advisors.
"I regret nothing about my experience with SNHU. The support of the advisory team, instructors and career team have been life-changing," Gibson said. "Without a doubt, the instructors are the one thing that has made the biggest impression on me. They are excellent role models and mentors who care about their students long after those students leave their class."
Gibson is still working toward completing her master's degree, but she has already found a new career as a policy and procedure writer for a mortgage company. Going forward, Gibson said she hopes to teach English at the college level.
"Through my experience at SNHU, I have had the opportunity to be a peer leader on many occasions," Gibson said. "I have discovered a passion for helping others succeed, and I can think of no better way to channel that passion than through helping others achieve their fullest potential."
